Octagon from rectangle

From a rectangular tablecloth shape with dimensions of 4 dm and 8 dm, we cut down the corners in the shape of isosceles triangles. It thus formed an octagon with an area of 26 dm2. How many dm2 do we cut down?

Correct answer:

x =  6 dm2

Step-by-step explanation:

a=8 dm b=4 dm S1=26 dm2  S2=a b=8 4=32 dm2 x=S2S1=3226=6 dm2
