Bike ride

Marek rode a bike ride. In an hour, John followed him on the same route by car, at an average speed of 72 km/h, and in 20 minutes, he drove him. Will he determine the length Marek took before John caught up with him, and at what speed did Marek drive?

Correct answer:

s =  24 km
v =  18 km/h

Step-by-step explanation:

s = v · (1 + 20/60)
s = 72·(20/60)

60s-80v = 0
60s = 1440

Row 2 - Row 1 → Row 2
60s-80v = 0
80v = 1440

v = 1440/80 = 18
s = 0+80v/60 = 0+80 · 18/60 = 24

s = 24
v = 18

Our linear equations calculator calculates it.
v=18=18 km/h
