The escalator

I run up the escalator at a constant speed in the stairs' direction and write down the number of steps A we climbed. Then we turned around, ran it at the same constant speed in the opposite direction, and wrote down the number of steps B that I climbed. If A = 24 and B = 264, how many steps are visible at any one time on the escalator?

Correct answer:

x =  144

Step-by-step explanation:

x = 24+v
x = 264-v

v-x = -24
v+x = 264

Row 2 - Row 1 → Row 2
v-x = -24
2x = 288

x = 288/2 = 144
v = -24+x = -24+144 = 120

v = 120
x = 144

Our linear equations calculator calculates it.
