Sweets, candy

Grandfather gave out sweets to four children. At the last moment, two more children came, so to have them all the same, each of the four children would receive four candies less than they would have received if they had not. How much did my grandfather have candy?

Correct answer:

x =  48

Step-by-step explanation:

x = 4b
x = 4(b-4)+2·(b-4)

x = 4·b
x = 4·(b-4)+2·(b-4)

4b-x = 0
6b-x = 24

Pivot: Row 1 ↔ Row 2
6b-x = 24
4b-x = 0

Row 2 - 4/6 · Row 1 → Row 2
6b-x = 24
-0.33x = -16

x = -16/-0.33333333 = 48
b = 24+x/6 = 24+48/6 = 12

b = 12
x = 48
