The rectangle

The length and width of a rectangle are in the ratio of 5:2. Its length is 7.5 cm longer than its width. Find the area of the rectangle. Determine also its length and its width.

Correct answer:

a =  12.5 cm
b =  5 cm
S =  62.5 cm2

Step-by-step explanation:

2a=5b
a = 7.5 + b

2·a=5·b
a = 7.5 + b

2a-5b = 0
a-b = 7.5

Row 2 - 1/2 · Row 1 → Row 2
2a-5b = 0
1.5b = 7.5

b = 7.5/1.5 = 5
a = 0+5b/2 = 0+5 · 5/2 = 12.5

a = 25/2 = 12.5
b = 5

Our linear equations calculator calculates it.
S=a b=12.5 5=62.5 cm2
