# Isosceles right triangle

Contents of an isosceles right triangle is 18 dm2. Calculate the length of its base.

Correct result:

c =  8.485 dm

#### Solution:

$S=18 \ \\ S=ab/2 \ \\ a=b \ \\ a=\sqrt{ 2 \cdot \ S }=\sqrt{ 2 \cdot \ 18 }=6 \ \\ b=a=6 \ \\ c=\sqrt{ a^2+b^2 }=\sqrt{ 6^2+6^2 }=6 \ \sqrt{ 2 }=8.485 \ \text{dm}$
