Sand castle

Tim and Tom built a sand castle and embellished it with a flag. Half the pole with the flag plunged into the castle. The highest point of the pole was 80 cm above the ground, and its lowest point was 20 cm above the ground. How high was the sand castle?

Correct answer:

h =  50 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

h = x+20
80 = 2x+20

h = x+20
80 = 2·x+20

h-x = 20
2x = 60

x = 60/2 = 30
h = 20+x = 20+30 = 50

h = 50
x = 30
