Functions - practice problems
In mathematics, a function is a relation between a set of inputs and a set of permissible outputs with the property that each input is related to exactly one output. The set of inputs is commonly referred to as the domain, while the set of outputs is referred to as the range.A function is typically represented by an equation that describes the relationship between the input and output. For example, the equation y = 2x + 1 describes a linear function, where y is the output and x is the input. The input (x) can be any real number, and for each value of x, there is a corresponding output (y) given by the equation.
Functions can also be represented graphically, with the input values on the x-axis and the output values on the y-axis. A graph of a function is a set of ordered pairs (x, y) that satisfy the equation.
There are different types of functions, such as polynomial functions, exponential functions (y=e^x), and trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan ...), each with their own unique properties and behaviors.
