Activities:

1. Students practiced using counting strategies with cubes, dice, and two-sided colored counters. Students counted out 10 two sided counters and flipped all 10 counters to one color. The teacher directed the students to flip over a specific number of counters. Students then determined the number of each color as the teacher wrote the numbers in an addition equation on a whiteboard to match the counters. Students practiced a couple of rounds of making ten with the counters.

2. Students also used dice and blocks to practice identifying numbers 1-20 and counting to 20. Students rolled a variety of different dice with varying amounts of numbers to identify numberals and counting dots on the dice. Students rolled dice with dots 1-6 and wrote the numeral on a whiteboard. After students did a few rounds with the dotted dice, they were given dice with numberals on them and drew circles to represent the numeral.

3. Students played a game called Fill 'er Up. Students rolled their dice and whatever number the dice showed facing up was the number of blocks the students would put in their bowl. Students kept rolling, counting, and filling thier bowl with blocks until it was full.
