# Work + ratio - math problems

Work Problems are word problems that involve different people doing work together but at different rates. Another problem that involves pipes filling up a tank. Another name for these problems is working together word problems.

We suggest solving working together word problems with the proportion. If a task can be completed in t hours, then 1/t of the task can be completed In one hour.

• The work
The work was to be done by 150 workers. At the beginning of their work, their number reduced by 40, which increased the time of work by 5 and 1/3 of the schedule. How long did work take?
• Working time
At 10 hours work shift, work is done in 16 days. How many days will the work be done at 8 hours shifts?
• Mason with assistant
Mason had to complete the work in 10 days. Two and a half days later his assistant arrived. Together they completed the work in next three and a half days. How many days would he need an assistant for the same work?
• Painting
Jožko with Fero painted the bench for four hours. How many hours would take work if four friends help him?
• Painting rooms
If Dano paint three hours daily given work he complete in 7.5 days. How many hours a day would have to work to finish the job 1.5 days earlier?
• Painters
Ten painters paint the school in 20 days. How many days do four painters paint the school at the same pace of work?
• Revenue
Mr. Robert and Mr. Norbert get together € 1400. The revenue split in the ratio of 4:3, depending upon each work. How many got each of them?
• Wood
Peter chops wood. If they cut down a half hours a day he ended work in 9 days. But Peter needs to end work 3 days earlier. How many minutes a day should cut down?
• Two xeroxes
The performances of the two copiers are in the ratio 3: 4. A machine with higher power will make 7,200 copies in one hour. How many copies will both machines make together in 5 hours?
Road repair took 10 days for 36 workers if they worked 9 hours a day. How many days take repair same road 37 workers if they work 8 per day?
• Forestry workers
In the forest is employed 56 laborers planting trees in nurseries. For 8 hour work day would end job in 37 days. After 16 days, 9 laborers go forth? How many days are needed to complete planting trees in nurseries by others if they work 10 hours a day?
• Three workers
Three workers got paid for work. First earn € 50, the second € 100 and third € 60. For further work should receive together € 735. How do you divide that amount in order to be distributed in the same proportion as the first job?
• Greek railwayman
Wesley works for the Slovak railways since 1986. His salary is 864 €. His colleague, Evgenias works in the Greek State Railways from 1991. Earns 5010 € per month. Calculate how many hours a day must Evgenias work to earn as much as Wesley and if they work
• Two diggers
Two diggers should dig a ditch. If each of them worked just one-third of the time that the other digger needs, they'd dig up a 13/18 ditch together. Find the ratio of the performance of this two diggers.
• Five mechanics
Five mechanics will make a car for some time. How many cars can 30 mechanics produce at the same time?
• Pumps
6 pump fills the tank for 3 and a half days. How long will fill the tank 7 equally powerful pumps?
• Highway
Six trucks will be used to build the roadside 18 days. After 3 days, two more trucks were sent to build. How long will it take for material move?
• Cows
20 cows has food for 60 days. We reduce the dose to two-thirds for 18 cows. How many days will be fed?
• Greenhouses
Two workers would make installation of greenhouses for 54 hours. For how many hours does the installation 9 workers?
• Troops - soldiers
Food stocks will last 20 soldiers of the 4-day training. How many days they could extend training if four soldiers become sick?
