Map scale - practice problems - page 5 of 9

The scale of the map expresses how many cm is really 1 cm on the map. Or how many meters, kilometers. It is the ratio of the reduction of the dimensions of real objects when plotting on a map (mapping).

Thus, a scale of 1: 1000 means that 1 cm on the map is 1000 cm in reality. Or that one piece on the map is 1000 pieces in fact.
