Work word problems

Work Problems are word problems that involve different people doing work together but at different rates. Another problem involves pipes filling up a tank. Another name for these problems is working together word problems.

We suggest solving working together word problems with the proportion. If we can complete a task in t hours, we can complete 1/t of the task in one hour.

  • Reading
    If I read 15 pages a day, I will read the whole book in 18 days. How long will it take to read a book if I only read 9 pages every day?
  • Diggers
    Eight diggers will do the job in 85 hours. After 21 hours, 3 diggers had to leave. How many hours will the work be done?
  • Part-time workers
    Three part-time workers received CZK 1,235 for their work. The first received 20% less than the second and the third received 45 CZK more than the second. Determine how many crowns (CZK) each of them received.

    Karel would rake the leaves in the garden alone in 24 minutes, his younger brother would take 30 minutes. How long would they dig a garden, if Karel digs alone for 6 minutes and then his brother comes to his aid?

    Farmers wanted to sow barley within 13 days. Due to the excellent weather, they exceeded the daily plan of sowing by 2 ha and therefore finished sow grain in 12 days. How many hectares of land did they sow with barley?
