Rules for expressions with fractions:

Fractions - write a forward slash to separate the numerator and the denominator, i.e., for five-hundredths, enter 5/100. If you use mixed numbers, leave a space between the whole and fraction parts.

Mixed numerals (mixed numbers or fractions) - keep one space between the whole part and fraction and use a forward slash to input fraction i.e., 1 2/3 . A negative mixed fraction write for example as -5 1/2.
A slash is both a sign for fraction line and division, use a colon (:) for division fractions i.e., 1/2 : 1/3.
Decimals (decimal numbers) enter with a decimal dot . and they are automatically converted to fractions - i.e. 1.45.

The calculator follows well-known rules for the order of operations. The most common mnemonics for remembering this order are:

• PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.
  
• BEDMAS: Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.
  
• BODMAS: Brackets, Order (or "Of"), Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.
  
• GEMDAS: Grouping symbols (brackets: (){}), Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.
  
• MDAS: Multiplication and Division (same precedence), Addition and Subtraction (same precedence). MDAS is a subset of PEMDAS.

Important Notes:
1. Multiplication/Division vs. Addition/Subtraction: Always perform multiplication and division *before* addition and subtraction.
2. Left-to-Right Rule: Operators with the same precedence (e.g., + and -, or * and /) must be evaluated from left to right.

• Sandy
  Sandy, John, and Marg baked pies for the Bake Sale. Sandy cut his pies into 6ths, John cut him into 8ths, and Marg cut hers into quarters. Sandy sold 11/6, John sold  1 3/8 pies, and Marg sold 9/4 pies. Who sold the most pies? Who sold the fewest?
• One third 2
  One-third of all students in class live in a house. If there are 42 students in a class, how many of them live in a house?
• Iron pole
  The iron pole is in the ground 2/5 of its length, partly above the ground 1/3 is yellow, and the unpainted section is 6 m long. How long is the entire column?
• Fraction unknowns
  Divide fractions with unknowns: Fraction 1: The quantity x squared plus 6 times x plus 9 over the quantity x minus 1. Fraction 2: the quantity x squared minus 9 over the quantity x squared minus 2 times x plus 1.  Find Fraction 1 over Fraction 2.
• Fractions
  Sort fractions z₁ = (20)/(9); z₂ = (10)/(21); z₃ = (15)/(14) by their size. The result writes as three serial numbers 1,2,3.
• Difference mixed fractions
  What is the difference between 4 2/3 and 3 1/6?
• Two sisters
  Two sisters together have 54 CDs. 6/8 CDs have a younger sister and are equal to 3/5 of CDs older sisters. How many CDs has each of the sisters?
