Cycling tourism

Among modern forms of relaxation and sport is cycling tourism. A group of pupils of a primary school together with their physics teacher decided to go on ordinary bicycles along the route from start place A to destination B. The teacher prepared a surprise for them, he plans to reward the successful pupils with a small refreshment in the buffet at the destination of the cycling route, as well as with a grade in physics. A) First he gave them a simple question: to state and explain which unit of speed is greater v1 = 1 km/h or v2 = 1 m/s? Provide your answer. b) He divided the route into two parts. The first with a length of s1 = 5.0 km, along which they had to go uniformly at a speed of v1 = 20 km/h, and the second with a length of s2 = 10 km, which they had to cover uniformly at a speed of v2 = 10 km/h. What was the average speed vp1 of the motion of the cyclists between the start and the destination, when they covered the whole route without interruption? C) On the way back they changed the tactics of the ride. The first half of the route they went at speed v1, the second half at speed v2. Determine the average speed vp2 of the ride in this case.

Final Answer:

vp1 =  12 km/h
vp2 =  15 km/h

Step-by-step explanation:

s1=5.0 km v1=20 km/h s2=10 km v2=10 km/h  t1=s1/v1=5/20=41=0.25 h t2=s2/v2=10/10=1 h  vp1=t1+t2s1+s2=41+15+10=12 km/h
t3=s1/v2=5/10=21=0.5 h t4=s2/v1=10/20=21=0.5 h  vp2=t3+t4s1+s2=21+215+10=15 km/h
