Mr. Gazdíček

Mr. Gazdíček has in the garden two identical tanks for rainwater, which he uses for continuous irrigation.
At the last check, there were 1 000 litres in the first tank and 1 200 litres of water in the second.
From the first tank water flows at a rate of 10 litres per hour, from the second at a rate of 30 litres per hour.

a) In how many hours will there be the same amount of water in both tanks, if in the meantime it does not rain?
b) In how many hours will there be in one tank twice as much water as in the other, if in the meantime it does not rain?
c) How many litres of water will then (question b)) be in the second tank?

Final Answer:

t =  10 h
b =  28 h
c =  360 l

Step-by-step explanation:

1000 - 10·t = 1200 - 30·t

20t = 200

t = 200/20 = 10

t = 10

Our simple equation calculator calculates it.

1000 - 10·b = 2·(1200 - 30·b)

50b = 1400

b = 1400/50 = 28

b = 28

Our simple equation calculator calculates it.
c=120030 b=120030 28=360 l
