They competed

On April 1, the seventh graders competed for the worst written dictation. The winner was Jožo Poleno, who left out a letter in a third of the words of the dictation, made boldface in a quarter, forgot the soft part in a sixth, and despite all his efforts wrote the remaining twelve words without a mistake. How many words does the dictation have? (He did not make more mistakes in any word).

Correct answer:

n =  48

Step-by-step explanation:

3n+4n+6n+12=n  n/3+n/4+n/6+12=n  3n=144  n=3144=48  n=48
