Herd of fallow deer

When we were passing by the castle, we discovered in the castle garden a large herd of fallow deer, apparently accustomed to the admiration of people. Most of them were right by the road. Half of the herd was calmly lying just behind the fence, two sevenths were peacefully grazing nearby, ten fallow deer on the contrary were curiously looking at us, and only one fourteenth of the herd was lying not far away under the trees. How many fallow deer were grazing?

Final Answer:

p =  20

Step-by-step explanation:

n/2 + p + 10 + n/14 = n
p = 2/7 n

n/2 + p + 10 + n/14 = n
p = 2/7·n

6n-14p = 140
2n-7p = 0

Row 2 - 2/6 · Row 1 → Row 2
6n-14p = 140
-2.33p = -46.67

p = -46.66666667/-2.33333333 = 20
n = 140+14p/6 = 140+14 · 20/6 = 70

n = 70
p = 20
