New ratio

The ratio of ducks and chicken in our yard is 2 : 3. The total number of ducks and chickens together is 30. Mother gave 3 of the chickens to our neighbor. What is the new ratio now?

Result

r =  4:5

Solution:

$\ \\ a+b=30 \ \\ a=2/3 \cdot \ b \ \\ \ \\ a+b=30 \ \\ 3a-2b=0 \ \\ \ \\ a=12 \ \\ b=18 \ \\ \ \\ r=\dfrac{ a }{ b-3 }=\dfrac{ 12 }{ 18-3 }=\dfrac{ 4 }{ 5 }=0.8=4:5$
