Non-skiers

All fifth-graders went together on a ski course. There were more than 30 but fewer than 40 of them. First they were divided into skiers and non-skiers. Half of all the girls ended up in the non-skiers group, along with the same number of boys. In the skiers group there were three times as many boys as girls.

a) How many times more boys than girls were there on the course?
b) How many pupils were on the course?

Final Answer:

n =  36
k =  2

Step-by-step explanation:

30<n<40 z = l+n n = d+d l = d + 3d   30 < n < 40  30 < (d+3d) + (d+d) < 40  30 < 6d < 40  d=6  n=6 d=6 6=36
k =  d+d3d+d k=1+13+1=2
