# Cuboid 5

Calculate the mass of the cuboid with dimensions of 12 cm; 0.8 dm and 100 mm made from spruce wood (density = 550 kg/m3).

Result

m =  0.528 kg

#### Solution:

$a=12 \ cm=12 / 100 \ m=0.12 \ m \ \\ b=0.8 \ dm=0.8 / 10 \ m=0.08 \ m \ \\ c=100 \ mm=100 / 1000 \ m=0.1 \ m \ \\ \ \\ h=550 \ \text{kg/m}^3 \ \\ \ \\ V=a \cdot \ b \cdot \ c=0.12 \cdot \ 0.08 \cdot \ 0.1 \doteq \dfrac{ 3 }{ 3125 } \doteq 0.001 \ \text{m}^3 \ \\ \ \\ m=h \cdot \ V=550 \cdot \ 0.001=\dfrac{ 66 }{ 125 }=0.528 \ \text{kg}$

You asked for the weight... in physics, weight is expressed in N not kg. You should know this!

Dr Math
Thank you, we have corrected 'weight' to 'mass'.
