Tea blend

Tea blends are made from two kinds of tea. In standard tea, the mixture is two teas in the ratio of 1:3, and 40 g costs 42 CZK. In the premium tea mixture, weighing two teas in the ratio of 1:1 and 50 grams costs 60 CZK. How much cost 10 grams of a more expensive kind of tea cost?

Correct answer:

x =  15

Step-by-step explanation:

(40/10)(1x+3y)/(1+3)=42
(50/10)(x+y)/(1+1) = 60

(40/10)·(1·x+3·y)/(1+3)=42
(50/10)·(x+y)/(1+1) = 60

10x+30y = 420
25x+25y = 600

Pivot: Row 1 ↔ Row 2
25x+25y = 600
10x+30y = 420

Row 2 - 10/25 · Row 1 → Row 2
25x+25y = 600
20y = 180

y = 180/20 = 9
x = 600-25y/25 = 600-25 · 9/25 = 15

x = 15
y = 9
