# Basic functions - math word problems

1. Lighthouse Marcel (point J) lies in the grass and sees the top of the tent (point T) and behind it the top of the lighthouse (P). | TT '| = 1.2m, | PP '| = 36m, | JT '| = 5m. Marcel lies 15 meters away from the sea (M). Calculate the lighthouse distance from the sea.
2. Cutting square From a square with a side of 30 cm, we cut the circle with the highest possible diameter. How many percents of the square content is this circle?
3. Microorganisms The first generation of micro-organisms has a population of 13500 members. Each next generation is 11/10 times the previous one. Find out how many generations will reach at least three times members of the first generation.
4. Two masters The two masters will make as many parts as five apprentices at the same time. An eight-hour shift begins at 6 o'clock. When can a master finish the job to produce just as much as an apprentice for the whole shift?
5. Cylinder melted into cuboid A circular cylinder has area of cross section 56cm2 and the height is 10cm the cylinder is melted and made into a cuboid of base area 16cm2. What is the height of the cuboid?
6. Iron pole The iron pole is in the ground 2/5 of its length, partly above the ground 1/3 is yellow, and the unpainted section is 6 m long. How long is the entire column?
7. Tilapia A fish vendor sells 5/7 kilos of tilapia for 73.50. If you will buy 2 1/7 kilos of tilapia, how much will it cost?
8. Playing How long have we trained on the pitch when we know that the warm-up took 10 minutes, we trained passes for one-third of the time and we played football half the time?
9. Dance group The dance group formed groups of 4, 5, and 6 members. Always one dancer remains. How many dancers were there in the whole group?
10. Two municipalities The horizontal distance between municipalities is 39 km. Average sinking is 7 per mille. What is the difference in height between these municipalities?
11. Area of rectangle How many times will increase the area of the rectangle, if we increase twice the length and at the same time we decrease the width by the half?
12. Water lilies Water lilies are growing on the pond and their number is doubled every day. The whole layer is covered in 12 days. How many days will it cover 8 layers?
13. Square metal sheet Four squares of 300 mm side were cut out from a square sheet metal plate with a side of 0,7 m. Express the fraction and the percentage of waste from the square metal sheet.
14. Mixed numbers Rewrite mixed numbers so the fractions have the same denominator: 5 1/5 - 2 2/3 Marie wants to make a cone-shaped witch's hat for a masquerade ball. How much material will it need if it counts on an annular rim with diameters of 28cm and 44cm? Hat side length is 30cm. Add 5% of the material to the bust. Round to cm2.
16. Castle tower The castle tower has a cone-shaped roof with a diameter of 10 meters and a height of 8 meters. Calculate how much m² of coverage is needed to cover it if we must add one-third for the overlap.
17. Infinite sum of areas Above the height of the equilateral triangle ABC is constructed an equilateral triangle A1, B1, C1, of the height of the equilateral triangle built A2, B2, C2, and so on. The procedure is repeated continuously. What is the total sum of the areas of all tri
18. Age In 1960 my age was equal to the digits sum of the year of my birth. What is my age now?
19. Oranges Mother divided her three children's oranges in a ratio of 6:5:4. Two children gave 45 oranges. How many oranges were there?
20. Square sides If the square side increases by 28%, the square circumference increases by 11.2 meters. Find the length of the original square side.
