# Stones in aquarium

In an aquarium with a length 2 m; width 1.5 m and a depth of 2.5 m is a water level up to three-quarters of the depth. Can we place stones with a volume of 2 m3 into the aquarium without water being poured out?

Result

x =  0

#### Solution:

$a=2 \ \text{m} \ \\ b=1.5 \ \text{m} \ \\ c=2.5 \ \text{m} \ \\ V_{1}=a \cdot \ b \cdot \ c=2 \cdot \ 1.5 \cdot \ 2.5=\dfrac{ 15 }{ 2 }=7.5 \ \text{m}^3 \ \\ V_{2}=3/4 \cdot \ V_{1}=3/4 \cdot \ 7.5=\dfrac{ 45 }{ 8 }=5.625 \ \text{m}^3 \ \\ V_{3}=V_{2} + 2=5.625 + 2=\dfrac{ 61 }{ 8 }=7.625 \ \text{m}^3 \ \\ V_{3} > V_{1} \ \\ x=0$
